Usually I am a very satisfied customer with the level of service at Marriott properties and I am also a Gold Member. However, my recent stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Smithfield/Selma, turned out to be very disappointing. During my stated stay, I was amazed by the complete lack of presence at the front desk for several hours. I had requested for a late check out and I was asked to come in person to the front desk in the morning. I came down about 8-10 times and waited for a long time without anyone manning the front desk for a period of about 5 hours. I asked one of the cleaners and she said she had no clue. The most bothersome item during my stay - main breakfast items were finished by 8:45 AM and there was no one there to refill Additionally, the overall cleanliness and decor left much to be desired. There was no coffee in the lobby, and when I inquired, I was told that the pots were being washed. But on returning several times, there was no pot or coffee. The general attitude of the staff was dismissive. I sent a strong feedback to Marriott, and they provided a standard of reply stating that I will hear from them in 5 days. Still waiting to hear after 3 weeks. I have, for now, cancelled my future stays at Marriott properties and reverted to IHG/Hilton.
